Shallow strip foundation is used during the construction of bathhouses, as well as small cottages. This base assumes a small depth of occurrence, not reaching the depth of freezing of the soil. This design is used quite often due to its low cost and ease of construction. Reviews of the shallow strip foundation will allow you to evaluate its quality and reliability.

Shallow, shallow floating foundation - neat and reliable

Such foundations are everywhere built in Solnechnogorsk with private construction on marshy and heaving soils. They are used as the basis for frame and wooden houses. The main advantage is the lack of a large amount of earthwork. A trench is dug up to a depth of 80 and a width of up to 50 cm and filled with sand. In difficult cases of quicksand with reinforced concrete. A formwork with a height of up to 40 s is placed on top of which a reinforcing cage is placed.

All this is poured with concrete. Such construction is practiced everywhere and not for the first year. This gives a significant saving of money and time, because otherwise you would have to use flooded shield foundations. For heavier houses, for example from logs, such a strip foundation is strengthened with several pits punched to the depth of freezing and concreted.
pros
Significant cost reduction
Simplicity in execution
Minuses
Only for light and medium buildings

more than five years

Strip foundation and sand cushion
A comment
It was necessary to make the strip foundation elevated above ground level. The clay in the area is clayey and there wasn’t much sense to dig into it. Thus, the foundation turned out to be 0.5 m in clay soil and another 1 m in imported sand. But for such a design, it is necessary to provide for proper and good drainage. Otherwise, the water that accumulates in the sand will not find a way out, because under it is clay. In winter, when freezing, it will freeze strongly, increasing in volume - it will heave and may damage the SA foundation. We solved this issue by making a drainage ditch along the perimeter of the embankment with a slope of the trenches to the receiving well. Unfortunately, water from it has to be pumped out from time to time, since it does not leak further into the ground. On the whole, they are satisfied with the foundation themselves, made fairly quickly, with a leveling construction site.
pros
Reliable and solid foundation
Basement does not get wet
Minuses
The high cost of imported sand cushions
Term of use
half a year

Concrete casting and fixed formwork
A comment
After numerous visits to various forums and a survey of neighbors, it was decided to build a tape flood foundation on the house by pouring it into the ground. However, having taken measures to waterproof the underground and warm the aerial parts. As a fixed formwork, sheets of extruded polystyrene foam were chosen, since it is much stronger and more durable than ordinary foam.

The trench was dug by hand and the walls were carefully leveled. At the bottom, a sand cushion was made of wet sand with tamping.A 200 micron thick plastic film was then laid. Joints are overlapped and carefully glued. This is done to preserve the cement milk and increase the strength of concrete. As a fixed part of the formwork, 50 mm foam sheets are used. Reinforcement was carried out with 10 mm reinforcement. While construction work is underway on the construction of the box, but the foundation is excellent, it does not leak and does not crack.
pros
Simplicity of construction
Cheaper materials to build
Minuses
The question remains about the durability of the design.

Monolithic strip foundation casting and waterproofing
A comment
When building a house, a monolithic strip foundation was used. The formwork was made of wood very carefully and reliably. From the bottom, they dug it with soil, made emphasis from the bars, the bars also wedged the upper part of the shields. Unfortunately, there was not enough material to make the formwork immediately to the entire height of the foundation, so fillings were made in parts 40 to 50 cm high. special attention was paid to waterproofing. Since the house is on a low site, and I would not want to flood. TechnoNicol was chosen as a waterproofing material.

Actually, it should be applied to a special mastic, melted with a special heat gun, but we didn’t have one or the other, so that the walls were coated with bitumen melted in a bucket on a fire, it was applied to techno-nokol and stuck on the walls of the strip foundation outside. So far, there have been no flooding.
pros
High reliability and bearing capacity
Minuses
High price
Many additional and auxiliary processes
Term of use
half a year
